Meritxell Budó i Pla (born on 8 March 1969) is a Spanish politician and a pharmacist from Catalonia. She has held important roles in the government of Catalonia. Between 2019 and 2021, she was the Minister of the Presidency and the Government Spokesperson for Catalonia. Currently, she serves as the mayor of La Garriga, a town in Catalonia.

About Meritxell Budó
Her Early Life and Education
Meritxell Budó was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. When she was six years old, her family moved to La Garriga, where she has lived ever since. She studied at the University of Barcelona and earned a degree in pharmacy. This means she learned all about medicines and how they work. Later, she got a master's degree in the pharmaceutical industry. This helped her understand how medicines are made and sold. In 2002, she joined a political party called Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC).
Her Career as a Pharmacist
Before becoming a politician, Meritxell Budó worked in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry. This means she helped manage the making of medicines for animals.
Her Political Journey
Starting in Local Politics
Meritxell Budó began her political career in her hometown, La Garriga. In 2003, she ran for a seat on the local council. Even though she wasn't elected that year, she was appointed to the municipal council in 2006. A municipal council is a group of people who make decisions for a town or city.
In 2007, she was elected to the council again. With support from another political group, she became the mayor of La Garriga. The mayor is the main leader of a town. She was mayor until March 2008.
Becoming Mayor Again
Meritxell Budó was elected to the council once more in 2011. She became the mayor of La Garriga again, with help from a local agreement group. She continued to be re-elected as mayor in 2015.
Working for the Province and Region
From 2015 to 2019, Budó was part of the provincial deputation for Barcelona. This is a group that helps manage the affairs of the larger area around Barcelona. She also worked on social policies for the Vallés Oriental County Council from 2011 to 2015.
She was also involved in groups that help with international cooperation and development.
Joining the Catalan Government
In 2019, Meritxell Budó took on two very important roles in the government of Catalonia. She was named the Minister of the Presidency and the Government Spokesperson. She started these jobs on 25 March 2019. As Minister of the Presidency, she helped manage the work of the President of Catalonia, Quim Torra. As Government Spokesperson, she was the main person who spoke to the public and the media for the government.
In July 2020, she joined a new political party called Together for Catalonia.
