Met 3 is a tall building, also known as a skyscraper, located in Downtown Miami, Florida, United States. It is part of a bigger project called Metropolitan Miami, which includes four skyscrapers. Met 3 was once planned to be the tallest of these four towers.
The original plan for Met 3 was very ambitious. It was supposed to be 828 feet (about 252 meters) tall. If it had been built that way, it would have been the tallest building in Miami and the entire state of Florida. It would also have had 76 floors, making it one of the tallest buildings in the United States south of New York City based on the number of floors.
The building was designed to have many homes inside, making it a residential building. It would have been the tallest residential building south of New York, taking that title from the Four Seasons Hotel Miami.
Building History
The Metropolitan Miami project became well-known because of NBA basketball star Shaquille O'Neal. He started his own building company, the O'Neal Group. The Metropolitan Miami project was the very first one for his new company.
In 2008, a popular supermarket chain called Whole Foods decided to open a store on the ground floor of Met 3. This was a big step for the project. The bottom part of Met 3, where Whole Foods would be, and a separate shopping area called Met Square were planned to start construction in the summer of 2011.
The idea was to build the base of Met 3 first. Then, the tall tower of Met 3 could be built on top of it later. Even though there were many delays, Whole Foods stayed committed to the project. Finally, construction on Met 3 officially began in December 2011.
