Methow River
The beautiful Methow River flowing through Washington state.

The Methow River (say it like MET-how) is a river in northern Washington in the United States. It is a tributary of the Columbia River. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river.

The area of land that the Methow River and its smaller streams collect water from is called its watershed. This watershed covers about 1,890 square miles (4,895 square kilometers). It collects water from the eastern part of the North Cascades mountains. About 5,000 people live in this river valley.

The river got its name from the Methow Native Americans. Today, the Methow people are part of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Indian Reservation. The word "Methow" comes from the Okanagan language. It means "sunflower (seeds)".
