Mettler, also known as Mettler Station, is a small community in Kern County, California. It's called an unincorporated area because it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. For counting people, the U.S. Census Bureau calls it a census-designated place (CDP).
In 2020, about 90 people lived in Mettler. This number was a bit lower than in 2010, when 136 people lived there. A famous actor, James Dean, even got a speeding ticket here once!

James Dean's Visit
On September 30, 1955, the movie star James Dean was driving through Mettler. A California Highway Patrol officer stopped him and gave him a ticket for driving too fast. The officer wrote "Mettler Station" as the place where the ticket was given. This happened shortly before a serious car accident involving the actor.
