Exploring the Miccosukee Homeland
The Miccosukee Indian Reservation is made up of three separate areas. These areas are found in Broward County and Miami-Dade County. Each part has its own unique features.
The Alligator Alley Area
The biggest part of the reservation is called the Alligator Alley Reservation. It is located way out west in Broward County. This area is right on the edge of Collier County. It covers a very large space, about 127 square miles (329 square kilometers).
The Tamiami Trail Area
The second largest part is the Tamiami Trail Reservation. This section is about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Miami. It sits along the Tamiami Trail, which is also known as U.S. Route 41. This area is important because it is the center for most of the tribe's activities. It covers about 713 acres (2.88 square kilometers).
The Krome Avenue Area
The smallest part of the reservation is the Krome Avenue Reservation. It is located closer to Miami than the Tamiami Trail section. This area is also on the Tamiami Trail, near where it meets Krome Avenue. The Miccosukee Resort & Casino is found in this section. This part of the reservation is about 55 acres (0.22 square kilometers) in size.
The parts of the reservation in Miami-Dade County are in areas that are not part of any city. These are called unincorporated areas.

Education is very important for the Miccosukee tribe. They have their own school.

The Miccosukee Indian School is a special school for tribal children. It is connected with the Bureau of Indian Education.
