Club Football Journey
Playing for Emelec
Michael Arroyo began his football journey in the youth teams of Emelec. He was seen as a very talented young player. He played 73 games for Emelec before moving on.
Time at Deportivo Quito
Winning the 2009 League
In January 2009, Michael joined Deportivo Quito. He made his first appearance a few months later against Liga de Portoviejo. In that game, he scored two goals, helping his team win 2–0. He continued to score important goals throughout the season. On October 18, he scored the winning goal in a 1–0 victory against Macara. He helped Deportivo Quito win the 2009 Ecuadorian Serie A league title. He scored 10 goals in 17 league games that season.
2010 Season Highlights
Arroyo started the 2010 season with a 1–1 draw against Emelec. He scored his first goal of the season on March 28. He scored three more goals for Deportivo Quito before moving to Mexico.
Moving to San Luis
2010 to 2012 in Mexico
On May 28, 2010, Arroyo moved to San Luis in Mexico. He quickly showed his skills with strong long-range shots. He scored goals against several teams, including Tecos UAG and Querétaro. In the 2011 Copa Libertadores tournament, he scored two goals for San Luis.
Playing for Atlante
2012 Season with Atlante
On November 30, 2011, Arroyo joined Atlante. He scored a free-kick goal against his former club, San Luis. He scored three more goals for Atlante that season. In the summer of 2012, he was loaned to Barcelona SC in Ecuador.
Loan to Barcelona SC
2012 Championship Win
Michael's first game for Barcelona SC was a 2–1 win against his old club, Emelec. He scored his first goals for Barcelona on September 19, scoring two long-range goals in a 4–3 win. On November 4, he scored a penalty goal in a big 5–0 win against Emelec. On November 28, Arroyo and Barcelona SC became the 2012 Serie A champions. This was a big win for the club, as it had been almost 14 years since their last league title.
2013 Season with Barcelona
For the 2013 season, Arroyo wore the number 7 jersey. He scored his first goal of the season from a penalty kick against Boca Juniors. He also scored his first league goal in a 4–0 win against Deportivo Cuenca. He continued to score important goals, including two goals against LDU Quito.
Back to Atlante
In 2014, Arroyo returned to Atlante. On March 10, he had an amazing game, scoring four goals against Querétaro in a 4–2 victory. He finished that tournament with eight goals in sixteen games.
Time at Club América
On July 15, 2014, Arroyo joined América, a big club in Mexico, on loan. He scored his first league goal for América on October 2. On December 14, in the final championship match against Tigres UANL, Arroyo scored the first goal. América won 3–0, and Arroyo helped them win the Apertura 2014 championship. He was even voted the Most Valuable Player of the final match. He was a fan favorite because of his flashy skills and great free kicks. He also helped América win the CONCACAF Champions League in 2015 and 2016.
Playing for Grêmio
Michael Arroyo joined the Brazilian club Grêmio on June 29, 2017. He signed a three-year contract but only played in 7 games for the club.
Return to Barcelona SC
From 2018 to 2020, Michael Arroyo returned to play for Barcelona SC. He played 25 games and scored 8 goals during this time. He was part of the team that won the 2020 league title.

Playing for Ecuador
Youth and Senior Teams
Arroyo played for the Ecuador U-20 team in 2007. He scored a goal in Ecuador's 3–1 win against Venezuela. On May 8, 2010, he was called up to the senior Ecuador national team for the first time. He played the full game against Mexico and was named the best player of the match.
He scored his first goal for the senior team on May 28, 2011, against Mexico. The game ended in a 1–1 draw. Arroyo scored an impressive long-range shot against England in a friendly match.
