Michael Gregory began his career in the Royal Navy in 1964. This was the start of a long and successful time serving his country.
Leading Ships and Teams
After gaining experience, he became the commander of three different submarines. Submarines are special ships that can travel underwater. Later, in 1988, he became the captain of a frigate called HMS Cumberland. A frigate is a type of warship used for protecting other ships and for fighting.
Important Roles in Defence
After commanding ships, Michael Gregory worked in the Ministry of Defence. This is the government department that manages the country's armed forces. He helped with naval staff duties there. In 1994, he took on a special role as a naval attaché in Washington D. C., USA. A naval attaché is like a diplomat who represents the navy in another country.
In 1997, he was promoted to Flag Officer, Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland. This meant he was the top naval commander for those regions. He retired from the Royal Navy in 2000 after many years of service.
