Michael Hackett, born on May 11, 1960, is a former professional basketball player from America. He was a top player in different leagues. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in Venezuela's basketball league in 1984. He also became the top scorer in the Israeli League in 1991.
Michael Hackett's Basketball Journey
Michael Hackett went to Jacksonville University for college. His coach, Gene Bartow, thought he was an amazing player. He even called him "the best 6-foot-5 player in America."
In 1982, the Los Angeles Lakers picked Michael in the NBA draft. But he did not play for them. Instead, he played basketball in other countries. He played in the Philippines for a team called Ginebra San Miguel. This team is part of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Setting Scoring Records
Michael Hackett became one of the highest-scoring foreign players in PBA history. On November 21, 1985, he set a new PBA record. He scored an amazing 103 points in one game against the Great Taste team. This record was later broken by another player, Tony Harris, who scored 105 points.
In the same year, Michael won the PBA's Best Import of the Conference Award. This award goes to the best foreign player in a specific tournament.
Championship Wins
The next year, in 1986, Michael teamed up with another great player, Billy Ray Bates. Many people think they were the best pair of foreign players ever in the PBA. They helped their team, Ginebra, win the 1986 Open Conference championship.
Michael also became the top scorer in the Israeli League in 1991. This shows he was a strong scorer in different parts of the world.
