Michael John Elliott (born May 31, 1951 – died July 14, 2016) was a British journalist and leader. He spent much of his life in the United States. He was the head of ONE, an organization that fights poverty around the world.
In 2003, Michael Elliott received an award called the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his great work in journalism. He worked in important roles at famous magazines like Time Magazine, Newsweek, and The Economist. Later, he became the president and CEO of the ONE Campaign. This global group was started by Bono, the singer from U2, to help people in need.

Michael Elliott was born in Liverpool, England, in 1951. He later went to the University of Oxford, a very famous school.
Michael Elliott's Career in Journalism
After finishing university, Michael Elliott taught at several schools. These included Northwestern University, the University of Warwick, and the London School of Economics.
In 1984, he started working for The Economist magazine. He moved from England to the United States in 1986. There, he became the head of the magazine's office in Washington, D.C. He also became their political editor, writing about government and elections.
In 1993, Elliott joined Newsweek magazine. He worked as their diplomatic editor, covering international relations. From 1995, he led Newsweek International, which published the magazine outside the U.S.
In 2001, he moved to Time Magazine. He held several important roles there. In 2004, he became the editor for Time Asia. In 2005, he was named editor of Time International. He also became a deputy managing editor for Time. He even created the term Nylonkong in 2008, which described the close ties between New York, London, and Hong Kong.
Leading the Fight Against Poverty
In 2011, Michael Elliott left journalism. He became the CEO of ONE. This organization works to end extreme poverty and preventable diseases. He was in charge of all of ONE's work around the world.
In 2005, a group called GoodNet named Michael Elliott as one of the world’s 25 most inspiring CEOs. This showed how much he motivated others.
Michael Elliott's Passing
Michael Elliott passed away at age 65. He died in Washington, D.C. from problems caused by bladder cancer.
