Michael Dywane Jackson Dyson (born April 12, 1969 – died May 12, 2017) was an American football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Michael was chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the 1991 NFL Draft. He played college football at The University of Southern Mississippi. Jackson played for eight seasons in the NFL, from 1991 to 1998. He played for the Browns and the Baltimore Ravens. He also briefly signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 1999.

Playing Football
In college, Michael Jackson played with future NFL star quarterback Brett Favre. This was during the 1989 and 1990 seasons.
Cleveland Browns Career
Michael quickly became an important player for the Cleveland Browns. Their coach at the time was Bill Belichick. For three seasons, he caught over 40 passes and gained more than 710 yards. He also scored at least 7 touchdowns each of those years. His best season with the Browns was in 1993. That year, he caught 41 passes for 756 yards and scored 8 touchdowns.
During the 1993 season, Michael briefly changed his last name to Dyson. This was his father's last name. But he soon changed it back to Jackson. He wanted to keep his mother's maiden name because young fans knew him by that name.
Baltimore Ravens Success
In 1996, Michael Jackson had an amazing year with the Baltimore Ravens. He tied for the most receiving touchdowns in the NFL with 14. He also set new personal records that year. He caught 76 passes and gained 1,201 receiving yards.
Life After Football
Michael Jackson was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. After his football career, he became involved in politics. He served as the mayor of his hometown, Tangipahoa, Louisiana. He was mayor from 2009 to 2012.
His Passing
Michael Jackson passed away on May 12, 2017. He died in a motorcycle accident.
