Michael Sean McCary (born December 16, 1971) is an American singer. He is best known as the former bass singer of the famous R&B group Boyz II Men. Sometimes, people called him 'Mike Bass' during his time with the group.
Michael McCary and Boyz II Men
Michael McCary joined Boyz II Men after meeting the group members at school. He started singing with them and became their bass singer. The group signed with Motown Records in 1991. They released their first album, Cooleyhighharmony, that same year.
Boyz II Men became very popular for their incredible vocal harmonies. They released many hit songs. In 1996, they released the song "One Sweet Day" with singer Mariah Carey.
Leaving the Group
In 2003, Michael McCary left Boyz II Men. He had been experiencing severe back pain. Doctors later found out he had multiple sclerosis, a condition that affects the body's nervous system.
Michael kept his health condition private for a long time. He did not tell the other band members or the public until 2016. The group continued to perform without him.
Recent Reunion
Michael McCary reunited with his former bandmates in August 2024. This happened at one of their shows. He hinted that they might work together again in the future.
Later Career
After leaving Boyz II Men, Michael McCary took a break from performing. He appeared in a pilot for a talk show called A Pound of Paula. However, the show was not picked up for a full series. He returned to touring and performing in 2007.
