Michael Sean McCary, born on December 16, 1971, is an American singer. He was once the bass singer for the famous R&B group Boyz II Men. People sometimes called him Mike Bass when he was with the group.

Michael McCary and Boyz II Men

Michael McCary joined the group Boyz II Men after meeting the members at school. He started singing with them and became their bass singer.

In 1991, the group signed with Motown Records. They released their first album, Cooleyhighharmony, that same year. Boyz II Men quickly became popular. ..... In 1996, they released "One Sweet Day" with singer Mariah Carey. Boyz II Men are well-known for their amazing vocal harmonies. Michael McCary sang the low bass parts in their songs.

Why Michael Left the Group

In 2003, Michael McCary left Boyz II Men. He was having severe back pain. Doctors later found out he had multiple sclerosis, a condition that affects the body's nerves.

Michael kept his health problems a secret from the other band members for a long time. He did not tell the public until 2016. In an interview, another band member, Wanya Morris, said that Michael's health issues caused problems within the group. Morris mentioned that Michael sometimes did not show up for work. Because of this, the group had to continue without him. Michael McCary later said he felt sad about the situation. He mentioned that he no longer talked to his former bandmates.

However, Michael McCary reunited with Boyz II Men at their show on August 30, 2024. This made fans wonder if he might join the group again.

Michael's Later Work

After leaving Boyz II Men, Michael McCary appeared in a TV show pilot called A Pound of Paula. This show was not picked up for a full series. After taking a break from performing for a few years, he started touring again in 2007.
