Michael McLeod (born September 6, 1959) is a Canadian politician. He served as a Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories. He was first chosen in the 2015 Canadian federal election. He did not run for re-election in 2025.
Before becoming a Member of Parliament, McLeod was a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. He also served as the mayor of Fort Providence.

Michael McLeod's Political Journey
Michael McLeod was born in Fort Providence, Northwest Territories. When he was 22 years old, he became the mayor of Fort Providence. He was chosen for this role by the local Dene council.
Starting in Territorial Politics
McLeod first ran for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in 1999. He won this election, defeating the Speaker, Samuel Gargan. He represented the Deh Cho area.
He was re-elected in 2003. This election was very close, and he won by only 13 votes.
Serving in the Cabinet
In the 2007 election, Michael McLeod was re-elected without anyone running against him. This is called being "acclaimed." During this time, he served in the government's cabinet. He was the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Public Works and Services.
In the 2011 election, he was defeated by Michael Nadli.
Moving to Federal Politics
After his time in the Legislative Assembly, McLeod worked as a director for an environmental review board. He also helped promote tourism in the South Slave region.
In 2015, he decided to run for federal politics. He won the nomination for the Liberal Party of Canada in the Northwest Territories riding. On October 19, 2015, McLeod won the election. He became the new Member of Parliament, replacing Dennis Bevington.
McLeod was re-elected as a Member of Parliament in the 2019 federal election.
Family in Politics
Michael McLeod's brother, Bob McLeod, also had a significant political career. Bob McLeod was a member of the Legislative Assembly and served as the Premier of the Northwest Territories from 2011 to 2019.
