Michael Dennis Morgan, born on December 19, 1946, is an Australian who was a fantastic rower. He won medals at the Olympics and was a national champion. He also became a very successful coach for both Olympic teams and school students for over 25 years. He received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his achievements.

Becoming a Rower
Michael Morgan went to Newington College from 1957 to 1965. This is where he first started rowing. After school, he continued his rowing career at the Sydney Rowing Club starting in 1964.
Winning Championships
Michael became a champion rower for New South Wales. He rowed in the state's top team, the King's Cup VIII. He did this for six years in a row, from 1968 to 1973. His team won the national title in 1968 and again in 1972.
Olympic Success
He represented Australia at two Olympic Games. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, he won a silver medal. This was for the men's eight-person rowing team. He also competed at the Munich Olympics in 1972.
Coaching Career
After his rowing career, Michael Morgan became a coach. He was the first full-time head coach for the Sydney Rowing Club. He set a record for helping his teams win the most national championships in one year.
Coaching Olympic Teams
Michael coached many New South Wales youth teams. He also coached the King's Cup crews throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He went to his third Olympics in 1976. This time, he was the coach for the Australian eight-person rowing team at the Montreal Olympics.
Coaching School Teams
Michael Morgan also coached high school students. He worked with Robert Buntine to coach the top rowing team (1st VIII) at Newington College. They coached together for 26 years. In ten of those years, their school team won the "Head of the River" race. Michael was also a teacher at the college for 20 of those years.
