Michael Schulson is a famous American chef and restaurateur. This means he cooks amazing food and also owns many restaurants! He created the Schulson Collective, which is a group of popular restaurants. Some of his well-known places include Izakaya, Double Knot, Graffiti Bar, and Independence Beer Garden. He also owns Sampan, Harp & Crown, and Giuseppe & Sons, among others.
Becoming a Chef
Michael Schulson studied cooking at the Culinary Institute of America. This is a very well-known school for chefs. After he finished school, he worked in several famous restaurants. These included Peacock Alley and Park Avenue Café in New York. He also cooked at Le Bec-Fin and Susanna Foo.
Opening Restaurants
In 2008, Michael Schulson opened his first restaurant. It was called Izakaya and was a "Japanese pub." You could find it in Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.
A year later, in 2009, he opened his second restaurant. This one was named Sampan. It was a modern Asian restaurant and bar. Bon Appetit magazine said Sampan was one of the "Top Six places to Taste Asian Fusion." Also, Esquire magazine called Schulson one of their "Chefs to Watch." In the same year, he also started Graffiti Bar.
In 2014, Schulson created the Independence Beer Garden. This was a huge outdoor place for eating and drinking. It was about 20,000 square feet! Later, he opened the Harp & Crown restaurant in Philadelphia. Eater National magazine said Harp & Crown was one of the "most beautiful restaurants of 2016."
In 2016, Schulson opened the Double Knot restaurant in Philadelphia. This restaurant won many awards. The Philadelphia Inquirer gave it "three bells." Philadelphia magazine gave it three stars and called it the "2016 Best New Restaurant." Zagat also said it was one of the "15 biggest restaurant openings of 2016."
In 2017, Schulson opened Monkitail in Hollywood. Michael Schulson is still a chef-partner at Izakaya in Borgata in Atlantic City. He also runs restaurants in airports. These include Sky Asian Bistro at Philadelphia International Airport. He also has Deep Blue at JFK International Airport.

Michael Schulson has been on TV shows. He starred in TLC's Ultimate Cake Off. He was also on Style Network’s Pantry Raid. You might have seen him as a guest on other popular shows.
