Michael John Smith (born March 28, 1972) is an American former professional basketball player. He was sometimes called "the Animal" because of how he played. He spent seven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1994 to 2001.

Michael Smith is a power forward who stands 6 feet 8 inches tall. He played college basketball at Providence College. The Sacramento Kings picked him in the second round of the 1994 NBA draft. During his NBA career, he played for the Kings, Vancouver Grizzlies, and Washington Wizards. He scored a total of 2,527 points and grabbed 3,193 rebounds in the NBA. He also played with the Indiana Pacers for a short time in 2003 before the regular season started.

Michael Smith had some memorable moments during his time in the NBA. On November 10, 1995, while playing for the Kings, he was involved in an incident with Indiana Pacers player Dale Davis.

During this event, players from both teams who were on the bench left their seats. Because of this, they were all fined $2,500 and suspended for one game. Michael Smith and Dale Davis were each fined $20,000 and suspended for two games.
