Michael Vartan was born in France. His father, Edmond "Eddie" Vartan, was a musician. His mother, Doris Pucher, was a painter. His aunt is the famous singer Sylvie Vartan.
Michael's family background is quite mixed. His father's side had Armenian and Bulgarian roots. His paternal grandmother was of Hungarian Jewish background. His mother is a Polish Jewish immigrant to the United States.
