Michael de la Pole, 3rd Earl of Suffolk (born 1394 – died October 25, 1415) was an important English nobleman. He was the oldest son of Michael de la Pole, 2nd Earl of Suffolk and Katherine de Stafford.

A Young Soldier's Life

In 1415, Michael de la Pole joined the English army heading to France. He brought 20 men-at-arms (soldiers in armor) and 60 archers with him. His father, the 2nd Earl of Suffolk, also went to France.

The Siege of Harfleur

Michael and his father took part in the Siege of Harfleur. This was a long battle where the English army tried to capture the French town of Harfleur. During this siege, Michael's father sadly passed away. This meant that Michael became the 3rd Earl of Suffolk.

The Battle of Agincourt

Michael de la Pole did not hold his new title for very long. About seven weeks after his father's death, he fought in the famous Battle of Agincourt. This was a major battle between the English and French armies. Michael was one of the few important English people who died in the battle.

Family and Legacy

Before November 1403, Michael de la Pole married Elizabeth Mowbray. She was the daughter of the 1st Duke of Norfolk. Michael and Elizabeth had three daughters:

  • Catherine de la Pole (born May 6, 1410), who later became a nun at Bruisyard.
  • Elizabeth de la Pole (born July 22, 1411 – died before 1422).
  • Isabel de la Pole (born June 4, 1415 – died before 1422).

Since Michael had no sons, his younger brother, William de la Pole, became the next Earl of Suffolk. It is believed that Michael was buried in one of two places: either Butley Priory in Suffolk or the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Ewelme, Oxfordshire.
