Michaela Angela Davis is an American writer and expert on fashion. She writes about African-American style, race, and culture in the United States. She is also known as an "image activist," which means she works to change how people see and think about images, especially those related to Black culture.

Early Life and Education
Michaela Angela Davis was born on March 31, 1964. Her birthplace was Landshut, Germany. She grew up in Washington, D.C.. Her parents are Harold Edward Gregory Davis and Helen Jean Butler. She has two sisters, Debbie and Monica, and a brother, Eddie.
Michaela's Schooling and Training
Michaela started her studies at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. This school is in Washington, D.C. She was a National Arts Scholar there. Later, she went to college at New York University. She also studied acting at the Stella Adler Acting Conservatory. She trained in dance at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Writing and Publishing Career
After finishing her studies, Davis began working in 1991. She joined Essence magazine as an associate fashion editor. One of her first big jobs was styling Anita Hill. This was for Ms. Hill's important testimony before Congress.

Davis became a key editor at Essence magazine. She was the associate fashion and culture editor. She also became the executive fashion and beauty editor.
