Michaela Pereira, born on August 26, 1970, is a Canadian TV host. She is well-known for being a news anchor in Los Angeles. She worked on popular morning shows like KTLA Morning News and Good Day LA.
In 2013, she moved from KTLA to join CNN's new morning show, New Day. Later, in 2016, Michaela joined HLN, another TV network. There, she hosted her own news show called MichaeLA.
In 2018, HLN decided to reduce its live news programs. This meant that MichaeLA and other shows ended on October 26, 2018. In 2020, Michaela joined KTTV FOX11 in Los Angeles. She became a co-host on their morning show, Good Day LA. She left Good Day LA in September 2022.
Her Journey in Education
Michaela Pereira went to Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School. This is a public high school in 100 Mile House, British Columbia, Canada. She finished high school in 1988. After that, she studied at Camosun College and the University of Victoria. Both colleges are also in British Columbia.
Her Career in Television
Michaela Pereira started her TV career at CHEK-TV in Victoria, British Columbia. She hosted a magazine show and special documentaries. She also reported on weather, sports, and entertainment news.
Later, she co-hosted Internet Tonight on ZDTV. This show was a daily look at internet news and interesting websites. After Internet Tonight ended in 2001, Michaela became a regular host for TechLive. She worked there until 2004.
In 2004, she joined KTLA in Los Angeles. Her last episode of TechLive was on February 6, 2004. Soon after, TechTV merged with another channel, G4.
In 1999, Michaela was one of the people who temporarily reviewed movies with film critic Roger Ebert. This was for his TV show, At the Movies. She was considered to replace Roger Ebert's co-host, Gene Siskel. However, Richard Roeper got the job. During one show, she talked about how she liked mainstream movies. Roger Ebert preferred more artistic films. She also shared how the internet was becoming important for marketing big movies.
On January 1, 2007, Michaela co-hosted the Tournament of Roses Parade. She worked with former game show host Bob Eubanks. She co-hosted the parade again with him in 2008.
Michaela was a co-host of KTLA Morning News for nine years. This show was the top-rated morning newscast in Los Angeles. The program won nine Emmy Awards. One Emmy was for "Best Regularly Scheduled Daily News." Michaela herself won three Golden Mike Awards. She won for live news coverage in 2006. She also won for "Best Daytime News Broadcast" in 2004 and 2006. She received two Mark Twain Awards in 2004. These were for "Best Live Coverage of a News Event" and "Best 60 Minute Broadcast: KTLA Morning News."
Her Community Work
Michaela Pereira is very active in helping her community. She is the chairwoman of the board for LA's BEST Friends. This program offers education, fun activities, and recreation after school.
She was also on the board of directors for the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club. She was an advisory board member for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). This group helps children in foster care. She also advised EmpowerTech, which helps people with disabilities. She co-chaired the advisory board of Optimist Youth Home. This home provides services for young people facing challenges.
Michaela is a member of several important groups. These include the National Association of Black Journalists. She is also part of the Black Journalists Association of Southern California. She belongs to American Women in Radio and Television. She is also involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Her Personal Life
Michaela Pereira was adopted. Her parents and siblings have different ethnic backgrounds than her. This experience has made her a strong supporter of children's rights. Even though she has lived and worked in the United States for many years, she is still a Canadian citizen. She speaks Portuguese in addition to English. She used to be a big fan of snowboarding. However, she had knee surgery in 2010.
