Micheal Williams' NBA Journey
Starting in the NBA
Micheal Williams played college basketball at Baylor University. After college, he was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 1988 NBA draft. He was the 48th player picked overall. In his first year, he played 49 games for the Pistons. He helped them win the NBA championship in 1989.
Moving to New Teams
In 1989, Micheal was traded to the Phoenix Suns. Later that same season, he joined the Charlotte Hornets. He then moved to the Indiana Pacers in 1990. With the Pacers, Micheal really shined. He scored more points and made more assists. He was also very good at shooting free throws.
Time with the Minnesota Timberwolves
Before the 1992-93 season, Micheal was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He continued to play well for his first two years there. However, he faced several injuries. Because of these injuries, he played in only 35 games during his last four years with the Timberwolves. He even missed the entire 1996-97 season.
Final Years in the League
In 1999, Micheal was traded to the Toronto Raptors. By this time, his career was slowing down. He played only two games for the Raptors before he retired from basketball that same year.
NBA Free Throw Record
Micheal Williams is well-known for his amazing free-throw shooting. At the end of the 1992-93 season, he was fourth in the league for free-throw accuracy. He made his last 84 free throws that season. This broke a record of 78 consecutive free throws set by Calvin Murphy in 1981. Micheal kept his streak going into the next season (1993-94). He made his first 13 attempts that year.
As of 2025, Micheal still holds the NBA record for the most consecutive free throws made. He made 97 free throws in a row during regular-season games. This incredible streak happened over 19 games, from March 24 to November 9, 1993.
