Michel Dalberto, born on June 2, 1955, is a famous French pianist who performs in concerts all over the world. He is known for his amazing musical talent.

His Early Life and Training

Michel Dalberto was born in Paris, France. His family was not musical, but he started playing the piano when he was only three and a half years old! When he was twelve, he met a very important piano teacher named Vlado Perlemuter. Perlemuter was a student of the famous pianist Alfred Cortot.

In 1969, Michel joined Perlemuter's class at the Paris Conservatoire. This is a very famous music school in Paris. He studied there for nine years, learning and improving his piano skills.

Winning Awards and Helping Others

Michel Dalberto first became well-known in 1975 when he won the Clara Haskil Prize. This is a special award for young pianists. Three years later, in 1978, he won First Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition. This is one of the most important piano competitions in the world.

From 1990 to 2005, Michel Dalberto was an important helper, called an Artistic Adviser, for the Les Arcs Academy-Festival in France. He also helped choose winners for the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition. He was the head of the judges (Chairman of the Jury) for this competition from 1991 to 2009. In May 2011, he became a Professor at the Paris Conservatoire, teaching new students.

In 1996, the French government gave Michel Dalberto a special award called the Knight of the Ordre National du Mérite. This award recognizes his important contributions to music.

His Music Recordings

Michel Dalberto has made many recordings of his piano music. His very first recording, which included two piano pieces by Schubert, won a big award called the Grand Prize of the Academy Charles Cros.

He has recorded all of Schubert's piano music, which fills 14 CDs! He also recorded the Grieg Concerto in A minor and Richard Strauss's Burleske in D minor with the London Philharmonia orchestra. He even recorded a "live" performance of the Schumann Concerto with the Wiener Symphoniker orchestra.

Michel Dalberto has also recorded songs with famous singers like Jessye Norman and Barbara Hendricks. Since 1997, he has recorded for the RCA Red Seal music label. These recordings include music by Debussy and Mozart. In 2004, he released a recording of music by Liszt based on operas by Verdi and Wagner.
