Michel Mercier was born on March 7, 1947, in France. He is a French politician who held important roles in the French government. He is best known for serving as the Minister of Justice from 2010 to 2012.
Before becoming a minister, Michel Mercier studied law. He went to Jean Moulin University Law School and the Lyon Institute of Political Science. After his studies, he taught about finance and local government law at Lyon III University.

Running for Mayor
In 2001, he ran for mayor of Lyon, a big city in France. He was the main candidate for his political group. However, another candidate from his own political side also ran. This split the votes, and a different politician, Gérard Collomb, became the Mayor of Lyon.
