Micro is a small town located in Johnston County, North Carolina, in the United States. In 2020, about 458 people lived there. This was a small increase from the 441 people counted in 2010.
History of Micro
The town of Micro started around 1890. It grew up along a new "Short-Cut" railway line. Nine years later, in 1899, it officially became a town. It was first named Jerome, after a local landowner named Jerome Creech.
However, in 1905, the name was changed to Micro. This was done to avoid confusion with another community also called Jerome in Bladen County, North Carolina.
That same year, a wooden school was built for white children in Micro. Later, in 1924, a new brick school building replaced the wooden one. This brick school served the community until 1987.
