Micro black hole facts for kids
Micro black holes are super tiny black holes. Imagine a black hole, but much, much smaller – maybe even smaller than an atom! Because they are so small, scientists think they might shrink and disappear very quickly. This disappearing act is due to something called Hawking radiation, which is like a tiny bit of energy leaking away from the black hole. Some scientists believe these tiny black holes might naturally exist in space, left over from the very early universe. These are called primordial black holes.

How Scientists Look for Micro Black Holes
If a micro black hole were to disappear, it would create tiny bits of energy and particles that we might be able to find. Scientists use special tools, like the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, to search for these signs. This telescope looks for powerful bursts of gamma rays that could be coming from micro black holes as they vanish in outer space.
Can We Make Black Holes?
Scientists are always curious about how the universe works. One idea is that if two tiny particles smash into each other with a lot of energy, they might create a micro black hole. Some scientists wonder if the LHC, which is a giant machine that smashes particles together, could create one of these tiny black holes.
Are Micro Black Holes Dangerous?
If the LHC did create a micro black hole, scientists believe it would be completely safe. They think it would disappear almost instantly because of Hawking radiation, so it wouldn't have time to cause any harm.
In fact, tiny black holes might already be created naturally! Cosmic rays are super-energetic particles from space that constantly hit Earth's atmosphere. If these cosmic rays could create dangerous micro black holes, then our Earth would have been damaged a long time ago. Since Earth is still here and doing fine, scientists believe that if micro black holes are created, they are not dangerous at all. This idea is a bit like the Anthropic principle, which suggests that the conditions we see in the universe are just right for life because we are here to observe them.
