The Middle Branch of the Mad River is a small mountain stream, also known as a brook. It is located in the United States, right on the border between the states of Maine and New Hampshire. This short river flows through the beautiful eastern part of the White Mountains.
It is a smaller stream that flows into a larger one called the Mad River. The Mad River then joins the Cold River, which is part of the much bigger Saco River system. A river system, or watershed, is all the land where water drains into a particular river.
Where Does the Middle Branch Mad River Flow?
The Middle Branch of the Mad River starts high up on the slopes of West Royce Mountain. This mountain is located in Bean's Purchase, New Hampshire. From its starting point, the stream flows towards the east.
Its Journey to Maine
As it travels east, the Middle Branch crosses the state line. It begins its journey in New Hampshire and then continues into South Oxford, Maine. This means the river flows through two different states!
Joining the Mad River
The Middle Branch doesn't flow for very long. It is only about 0.8 miles (1.3 kilometers) in length. It eventually meets and joins the main Mad River. This meeting point is just a short distance upstream from a place called Mad River Falls. The falls are located near the bottom of West Royce Mountain.
