College History

Middlesex College was built on land that was once a military base. This base, called the Raritan Arsenal, was used by the United States Army and closed in 1963. The college was started in 1964 by local leaders. They wanted to create a college to help students in Middlesex County, New Jersey and nearby areas.

The first president, Frank Chambers, helped design the new college. Classes began in September 1966 with about 1,500 students. In 2019, Mark McCormick became the new college president. In late 2020, the college's leaders decided to change its name to Middlesex College. This change took effect on January 1, 2021. The college also got new colors and a new mascot.
