Middletown Village is a small community in the middle of Middletown Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. It's one of the oldest places settled in New Jersey. The whole area, called the Middletown Village Historic District, is a special historic place. It was added to important lists of historic sites in 1974.

A Look at Middletown Village History
People first bought land here in 1664. Soon after, they started building homes and living in the area. A main road, called the Kings Highway, was created in 1719. This road became very important. On June 29, 1778, British soldiers used the Kings Highway to leave after the Battle of Monmouth. This battle was a big event during the American Revolutionary War.

The Middletown Village Historic District is a special area that covers 80 acres. It is located along both sides of Kings Highway, near NJ 35. This district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 3, 1974. It was recognized for its importance in many areas. These include education, military history, politics, religion, and how the community first started. The district has 15 important historic buildings and sites. One of these is Christ Church.
Historic Churches of Middletown
There are three old churches along Kings Highway that have a lot of history.
Old First Church
The Old First Church was started in 1688. It is the oldest Baptist church group in all of New Jersey.
Christ Church
Christ Church began in 1702. It is one of the oldest Episcopal churches in New Jersey.
Middletown Reformed Church
The Middletown Reformed Church was built later, in 1836. It also adds to the rich history of the area.
