Where the Miette River Starts
The Miette River begins at the base of a mountain called Mount Moren. Its water comes from melting snow and ice (called meltwater) from several nearby mountains. These mountains include Mount Bridgeland, Salient Mountain, Mount McCord, and Mount Beaupre.
How the Miette River Got Its Name
The name "Miette" comes from the Cree language. It is the Cree word for "bighorn sheep". Many other places and features in Jasper National Park also have names from the Cree language.
Exploring the Miette River Trail
There is a fun path called the Miette River Trail that follows along the river. This trail is about 43.5 kilometers (around 27 miles) long. Part of the trail uses an old, unused railway path. One interesting spot you can find along the trail is a place called the Rink Cabin.
Smaller Streams Joining the Miette
Several smaller streams flow into the Miette River, adding to its water. These are like little helpers that feed the main river.
- Rink Brook
- Clairvaux Creek
- Minaga Creek
- Muhigan Creek
