Miguel Cané was an important writer and politician in Argentina.

Miguel Cané (born January 27, 1851 – died September 5, 1905) was a well-known Argentinian writer, lawyer, and politician. He also worked as a journalist and taught at universities.

Cané was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. His family was living there because they were exiled from Argentina. When he was two years old, his family moved back to Argentina after Juan Manuel de Rosas was no longer in power. After finishing his studies, he started working as a journalist.

Miguel Cané held many important jobs in the government. He was a minister, which means he was in charge of big parts of the government.

Political Roles and Diplomacy

He served as the Minister of External Affairs, handling Argentina's relationships with other countries. He was also the Minister of the Interior, dealing with matters inside the country. Cané was a member of parliament, representing his province and then the whole country. He even became the mayor of Buenos Aires, a very important city.

Cané also worked as a diplomat, representing Argentina in other countries like Colombia, Venezuela, and France. Later, from 1898 to 1904, he was a member of the national senate for Buenos Aires.

Cané was an important member of a group of writers called the Generation of '80. He was influenced by naturalism, which is a style of writing that shows life as it really is. He was also influenced by the Parnassian poets, who focused on beauty and perfect form in their writing.

Miguel Cané passed away in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on September 5, 1905.
