Miguel Sebastián Gascón was born in Madrid, Spain, on May 13, 1957. He is a Spanish politician and an economist. An economist is someone who studies how money, goods, and services are made and used. Miguel Sebastián was a part of the Spanish government as the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism from 2008 to 2011.

Before becoming a minister, he worked as an economic adviser for the Prime Minister of Spain, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, starting in 2004. Before that, he was a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, teaching students about economics. In 2007, he ran for mayor of Madrid but did not win.

Electric Cars and the Future

As Minister of Industry, Miguel Sebastián had a big idea for Spain's future. In 2008, he announced a plan to help put one million electric cars on the roads by 2014.

Why Electric Cars?

This plan was part of the Spanish government's effort to save energy and use it more wisely. Miguel Sebastián believed that electric cars were the future. He said they would lead to a new "industrial revolution," meaning a big change in how things are made and used. Electric cars help the environment because they don't use gasoline and produce less pollution.
