Michael Theodore "Stinger" Glenn (born September 10, 1955) is an American former professional basketball player. He played for ten seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Mike was known for his incredible shooting skills and his dedication both on and off the court.

Mike Glenn's Early Life and College Days

Mike Glenn went to Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia. After high school, he attended Southern Illinois University. He was a fantastic college basketball player there. He even earned the "MVC Player of the Year" award in 1976. Mike was also a great student! He graduated with honors in 1977. He earned a degree in mathematics and also studied computer science.

Playing in the NBA

Mike Glenn was chosen by the Chicago Bulls in the 1977 NBA draft. He was the twenty-third player picked overall. However, he had a car accident before he could play for the Bulls. He broke his neck, and the team released him. But Mike was determined! He recovered quickly and started his NBA career later that same year. He joined the Buffalo Braves.

In 1978, Mike signed with the New York Knicks. While playing in New York City, he also took business classes at St. John's University and Baruch College. He even earned his license to be a stockbroker.

Mike played for ten seasons in the NBA. He was a member of the Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, and Milwaukee Bucks. Throughout his career, he averaged 7.6 points per game. He was especially good at shooting, making 54.2% of his shots. His smooth midrange jump shot was famous. It earned him the nickname "The Stinger" from his Knicks teammates. In 1981, Mike received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. This award is given to NBA players who show great service to their community.

Life After Basketball

After retiring from playing basketball, Mike Glenn continued to be very active. He worked as a television analyst, helping explain games to viewers. He also became a writer. Mike even served as the commissioner for the World Basketball Association.

Because of his business background, Mike also worked for Merrill Lynch in the early 1990s. He helped with the NBA's retirement plan for players.

Today, Mike Glenn runs a special basketball camp. It's called the Mike Glenn All-Star Basketball Camp for the Hearing-Impaired. This was the first basketball camp in the country for deaf athletes. It's offered every summer and is completely free. Up to 120 deaf athletes from all over the country attend.

Mike also loves collecting things related to African-American history. He has a huge personal library on the subject. He has even shown his collection in exhibits across the country. Using his library, Mike has written several books about famous African-Americans. He also worked as a commentator for the Atlanta Hawks games for many years. Now, he analyzes the Hawks' pregame and postgame shows.
