Michael Anthony Mitchell (born January 1, 1956 – died June 9, 2011) was an American professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for eleven seasons, from 1978 to 1990.

College Basketball Career

Mitchell was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He played college basketball at Auburn University. During his time at Auburn, Mitchell was chosen as an All-SEC player four times. He was also named a second-team All-American in his final season (1977–78).

Professional Basketball Career

Mitchell was picked 15th overall in the first round of the 1978 NBA Draft. He was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He started his NBA career with the Cavaliers. However, he played most of his career for the San Antonio Spurs.

After his time in the NBA, Mitchell played basketball in Europe. From 1988, he played in Italy for Basket Brescia. He also played for Basket Napoli in Italy. In 1991, he moved to Israel to play for Maccabi Tel Aviv. From 1992 until he retired in 1999, Mitchell played for another Italian team, Pallacanestro Reggiana.
