Michael Anthony Sanders (born May 7, 1960) is a retired American professional basketball player. He mostly played as a small forward. Mike was picked by the Kansas City Kings in the 1982 NBA Draft. He later became an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before coaching, he helped players develop their skills for the team.
Mike Sanders' Playing Career
Mike Sanders was born in Vidalia, Louisiana. After playing college basketball at UCLA, he was chosen by the Kansas City Kings. This happened in the 1982 NBA Draft. He was the 74th player picked overall.
During his 11 seasons in the NBA, Mike played for several teams. These included the San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Indiana Pacers. On average, he scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds per game.
Early in his career, Mike also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played for the Montana Golden Nuggets and the Sarasota Stingers. In 37 games, he averaged 23.3 points and 8.9 rebounds. He was even named to the All-Defensive second team in 1983.
Mike Sanders' Coaching Career
After he stopped playing basketball, Mike Sanders became a coach. He was a head coach for teams like the Black Hills Gold and the Wisconsin Blast. He also coached the Adirondack Wildcats.
Mike also worked as an assistant coach for several NBA teams. He helped out the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, and Charlotte Bobcats. Later, he joined the Utah Jazz as an assistant coach.
