Mile Run is a small stream, also called a tributary, that flows into the Raritan River. You can find it in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in the United States.
This stream got its name because early mapmakers thought it was about one mile from the Raritan River. This was measured along an old road called King's Highway, which is now Route 27. Other nearby streams, like the Six Mile Run and the Nine Mile Run, have similar names for the same reason.
Where Mile Run Flows
Mile Run starts in the suburbs of New Brunswick. Its beginning is near How Lane (CR-680) and Jersey Avenue (SR-91). From there, it flows through neighborhoods.
The stream crosses Jersey Avenue and goes through an area with homes near Livingston Avenue (SR-26). It then goes under some railroad tracks and crosses Jersey Avenue again. It also crosses French Street (SR-27), which is about one mile from the Raritan River. This is how the stream got its name.
Mile Run continues to flow between houses and crosses Hamilton Street. It meets another small stream coming from the south. Finally, it crosses Easton Avenue and Landing Lane before joining the Raritan River.
This stream also forms part of the border between Somerset and Middlesex Counties.
Getting to Mile Run
Mile Run flows through an area with many buildings and roads. This means it is quite easy for people to get to and see the stream.
Animals in Mile Run
Because Mile Run is surrounded by a city, it faces some challenges. The city environment can put stress on the stream. This might affect the different kinds of water animals that live there.
