History of Milford
Milford began as a settlement in the mid-1800s. It grew along the Crawfish River. The town's name likely comes from a "ford" (a shallow place to cross a river) and a "mill." An early settler named Benjamin Nute built a sawmill near this river crossing.
Milford's Location and Nature
Milford is in the southeastern part of Wisconsin. It is located in Jefferson County. The town is found where County Highway 'A' and County Highway 'Q' meet. It sits along the Crawfish River, which flows into the Rock River. Milford is near other towns like Johnson Creek, Watertown, Waterloo, and Lake Mills.
The town covers about 91.0 square kilometers (35.1 square miles) in total. Most of this area, about 88.0 square kilometers (34.0 square miles), is land. The remaining 3.0 square kilometers (1.2 square miles) is water, making up about 3.28% of the total area.
