Mill Creek Marsh is a special place in New Jersey where nature is protected. It's like a big outdoor classroom or a quiet park for animals and plants! You can find it in a town called Secaucus, right next to North Bergen. This marsh gets its water from the Hackensack River, and it's even part of a walking path called the Hackensack RiverWalk.

This amazing natural area is surrounded by other interesting spots. To the west, you'll find Mill Creek, Schmidts Woods, and even Secaucus High School. To the north, there's the Western Brackish Marsh, and to the east, you'll see the Eastern Brackish Marsh and Cromakill Marsh. The Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike highway actually goes through the marsh. To the south, there's a shopping and entertainment area called The Plaza at Harmon Meadow, which includes the Mall at Mill Creek.

A Look Back in Time

Much of the land that makes up Mill Creek Marsh was bought from a company called Hartz Mountain. This helped make sure the land would be saved for nature.

Saving the Marsh

In 1996, the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission decided to protect this 209-acre area. They wanted to make sure it stayed a home for wildlife. Just two years later, in 1998, the Commission started working to make the marsh even better. They helped bring back the natural flow of the tides, which is super important for marsh health. They also built trails so people could explore and planted native plants that belong in this area.
