History of Millersview
Millersview was named in honor of Edward D. Miller, who helped start the community along with Henry Barr. A post office was opened in the village in 1903 and served the community until the early 1990s.
Early Development
By 1908, county advertisements mentioned that Millersview had a windmill and a Woodmen of the World lodge. This lodge was a type of social and insurance organization. The community continued to grow. By 1914, Millersview had three churches, three general stores, a grocery store, a cotton gin (a machine that separates cotton fibers from their seeds), and a company that sold grain, hay, and animal feed. At this time, the population was around 160 people.
Population Changes Over Time
The population of Millersview saw some ups and downs. By 1931, it was estimated to be 300 people. However, just two years later, in 1933, it dropped to 100. By 1939, it had increased again to 250. After that, the population generally decreased. One reason for this decline was a severe dry period known as the 1950s Texas drought. In 1963, Millersview still had its post office, four businesses, and five churches, with an estimated population of 175. Between 1970 and 2000, the population was recorded as 75.
Modern Day Millersview
Even though Millersview is not an official city, it still has a post office that serves the area. Its ZIP code is 76862.
