A Look Back: Millsmont's Beginnings
Millsmont started out as a special getaway spot around the early 1900s. People from busy San Francisco would come here to relax. It was like a quiet resort community.

The area was full of trees, making it a perfect place to buy land for weekend trips. You could get a good-sized plot of land, along with building plans and materials, for about $500! Small, cozy one-bedroom homes were built using just a few standard designs. You can even see one of these original homes at the corner of Edgemoor Place and Sunnymere Avenue. Many homes in Millsmont have amazing views of Alameda, the San Francisco Peninsula, and the Oakland hills.
After the Big Earthquake
A major event changed Millsmont in 1906. A huge earthquake hit San Francisco, leaving many people without homes or money. Some of these people moved to their small properties in Millsmont. They added onto their houses, and the neighborhood slowly grew and changed.
