The Milltir Cerrig is a special mountain pass in Wales. Its name means "mile of stones" in Welsh. It's a road that goes high up into the mountains, connecting two towns: Bala in Gwynedd county and Llangynog in Powys county. For a short part, it even passes through Denbighshire.

Exploring the Milltir Cerrig Pass

This mountain pass is part of the Berwyn mountain range. It reaches a high point of 486 metres (about 1,594 feet) above sea level. Imagine being that high up!

From the top of the Milltir Cerrig, you can find a special path called a bridleway. This path goes east across the main peaks of the Berwyn mountains. As you climb up from Bala, you can often see three important peaks:

The Milltir Cerrig mountain pass is about 9 miles long in total.

  • If you start from Llangynog, you'll climb about 4 miles up the Tanat Valley.
  • If you come from the B4391/B4402 road junction near Bala, you'll travel about 5 miles across open, wild moorland. Both routes offer a unique journey through the Welsh landscape.
