Mingsville, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mingsville was once a small town in the northeastern part of Wright County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. Today, it's known as an "extinct town" or a "ghost town," meaning it no longer has people living there.

Where Was Mingsville?

Mingsville was located in a pretty spot. It was just west of Missouri Route 95, right next to a stream called Shelby Branch. This stream flows into a larger one named Beaver Creek. The area where Mingsville used to be is also inside the beautiful Mark Twain National Forest. If you travel about 4.5 miles northeast along Route 95, you would reach Lynchburg, Missouri, which is in Laclede County, Missouri.

The Story of Mingsville's Past

Mingsville had a post office for many years. It first opened in 1871. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This post office served the community for a long time, but it finally closed in 1918. The town itself was named after a local family, the Mings family, who lived in the area. Over time, people moved away, and Mingsville became the quiet, extinct town it is today.
