Minoo Mohraz (born January 19, 1946) is a famous Iranian doctor, scientist, and professor. She is an expert in infectious diseases, which are illnesses that can spread from person to person.
Dr. Mohraz is best known for her work fighting HIV/AIDS in Iran. She has spent many years teaching people about the disease and caring for patients. She is the head of the Iranian Centre for HIV/AIDS and is seen as one of the country's top experts on the topic.
Early Life and Career
Minoo Mohraz was born in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. She knew from a young age that she wanted to help people by becoming a doctor.
She went to Tehran University of Medical Sciences and graduated in 1970. After that, she continued her studies to become a specialist. In 1973, she finished her training in public health and infectious diseases. In the same year, she became a professor at the university, where she taught new doctors for many years.
A Champion for Public Health
Dr. Mohraz became a leading voice for people with HIV/AIDS in Iran. She worked hard to make sure everyone understood how the disease spreads and how to stay safe. She often spoke with government leaders and religious figures to get their support for health campaigns.
In 2001, she was invited to speak on Iran's national television. She bravely talked about how to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. She insisted that her important health message not be edited or censored. This helped many people learn the facts about the disease.
Because of her direct and honest approach, Dr. Mohraz became a well-known figure in the fight against AIDS in Iran. She runs a special clinic for HIV/AIDS patients at the Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex in Tehran. It is the largest clinic of its kind in the country.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran, her expertise was needed again. She was chosen to be on a special committee to help fight the new virus. In March 2020, it was reported that she had become ill with COVID-19 herself but later recovered.
Important Medical Research
Dr. Mohraz has also done important research to help patients. She studied how HIV can spread in crowded places, like prisons, and worked to prevent it.
Her research team at the Iranian Research Center for HIV/AIDS also developed a special medicine called IMOD. It is made from seven different Iranian plants. This medicine is used along with other treatments to help strengthen the bodies of people with HIV.
