About Miodrag Pavlović

Miodrag Pavlović finished his medical studies at the University of Belgrade in 1954. While studying, he also learned foreign languages. In 1952, he published his very first book of poems, called 87 Poems. This was a time when writers in Yugoslavia were given more freedom to express their ideas.

In 1960, Pavlović became the director of drama at the National Theatre in Belgrade. This meant he helped decide which plays would be performed. He also worked for twenty years as an editor for a big publishing company called Prosveta.

His Poems and History

Miodrag Pavlović and many other thinkers from the Balkans region were very interested in how ancient peoples were connected to people living today. In his poems, you can often find references to old stories and events from the past.

Some of his historical poems include 'Odysseus on Circe's Island' and 'Kosovo'. These poems often use old tales to talk about modern times. They might explore feelings like fear or ideas about trickery. He also wrote poems directly about current issues, such as 'Fear' and 'Under the Ground'.

In 2012, Pavlović received the German literary prize Petrarca-Preis. His books have been translated into many different languages around the world. Towards the end of his life, he lived part-time in Tuttlingen, Germany, and part-time in Belgrade, Serbia.

There is even a street in Belgrade named after him, showing how much he is remembered.
