Mirador del Estrecho facts for kids
The Mirador del Estrecho is a special viewpoint in Spain. Its name means "Overlook of the Strait" in English. From here, you can see amazing views of the Strait of Gibraltar and the coast of Africa.
This viewpoint is located near the town of Tarifa, Spain. It's about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from the town center. The Mirador del Estrecho sits high up, about 300 meters (984 feet) above the sea. You can easily reach it by driving on the N-340 road.
What You Can See from the Mirador
The Mirador del Estrecho offers incredible sights, especially on clear days. You get a wide, open view of the Strait of Gibraltar. This is where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean.
Views of Africa
Looking across the water, you can clearly see the African coast.
- To your left (east), you might spot the Spanish city of Ceuta. It has a famous mountain called Monte Hacho.
- In the middle, you'll see Jebel Musa. This is a very tall mountain in Morocco. Many people believe it's one of the ancient "Pillars of Hercules". The other pillar is thought to be the Rock of Gibraltar.
- To your right, past Jebel Musa, you can see the Moroccan port of Tanger-Med. This is a busy place where many ships come and go.
