Miranda Joy Ayim (born May 6, 1988) is a Canadian basketball player. She played for Basket Landes in France. Miranda Ayim was a captain of the Canada women's national team. She proudly represented Canada in three Olympic Games between 2012 and 2021.

Playing Basketball in High School

Miranda Ayim went to Saunders Secondary School in London, Ontario. She was a starting player for her school's top basketball team for all four years. Miranda was also a very good student. She was on the honor roll every year and was the best student in her graduating class.

College Basketball Career

Miranda Ayim played college basketball for the Pepperdine women's team. She played there for four years. During her time at Pepperdine, she set a new school record for blocked shots, with 182 blocks in her career. She also scored 1377 points and grabbed 735 rebounds. Both of these numbers were among the top eight in the school's history.

Miranda was recognized for her skills on the court. She earned "All-West Coast Conference" honors three times. She also received "All-Academics" honors three times for her excellent grades. She was the first Pepperdine women's basketball player to achieve this special academic award.

Playing for Team Canada

Miranda Ayim played for several Canadian national teams in international basketball competitions.

Early National Team Experience

In 2007, she played for the Canadian team in the FIBA Under-21 World Championship for Women. Her team finished in sixth place. She also played in the FIBA Under-19 World Championship for Women, where her team placed ninth.

Olympic Games Appearances

Miranda was chosen to play for the Canadian national team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The team finished in 8th place.

She became an Olympian for the second time at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Canada finished strong in their group but lost in the quarterfinal game, ending up in 7th place.

In 2021, Miranda Ayim competed in her third Olympic Games in Tokyo. She had the special honor of being Canada's flag bearer at the opening ceremony, alongside Nathan Hirayama.

Winning Medals for Canada

Ayim played for Canada at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Women. Her team won a silver medal at this event.

In 2015, Miranda was part of the team that played in the Pan American Games in Toronto. The team had an amazing run, winning every game. They won Canada's first-ever Pan American gold medal in women's basketball. They beat the United States 81–73 in front of a big home crowd.

Later in 2015, Ayim played for Canada at the 2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship in Edmonton. The team continued their winning streak, taking home the FIBA Americas title. This win also meant they automatically qualified for the 2016 Olympics.

In 2017, Miranda Ayim was the captain of Team Canada at the 2017 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Argentina. The team won all six of their games. They successfully defended their Americas title by winning a very exciting gold medal game against Argentina. Miranda was also named to the tournament's "All-Star Five" team, which means she was one of the best five players in the whole tournament.

At the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, Canada had a perfect record in the first round. However, they lost to Spain in the quarterfinal and finished the tournament in 7th place.

Professional Basketball Career

After college, Miranda Ayim was not chosen in the 2011 WNBA draft. However, she signed a contract to try out for the Tulsa Shock team after playing professionally in Turkey.

Miranda played basketball in Turkey for three years, from 2010 to 2013. Then, she moved to France and started playing for Toulouse in the 2013–14 season. In the 2015–16 season, she joined Basket Landes, which marked her first time playing in the EuroCup competition.
