Mirtha Esther Vásquez Chuquilín was born on March 31, 1975. She is a lawyer and a politician from Peru. She was the Prime Minister of Peru from October 2021 to January 2022. Before that, she was a member of the Peruvian Congress. She represented the Cajamarca area. She was an independent politician.

Early Life and Education
Mirtha Vásquez was born in Cajamarca, a region in northern Peru. She studied law at the National University of Cajamarca. Later, she earned a master's degree. This degree was in social management. She got it from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
Her Career and Public Service
Mirtha Vásquez has worked in several important roles. She taught at the National University of Cajamarca. This is where she had studied earlier.
She also worked as a lawyer. She was an executive secretary for Grufides. This group helps protect human rights and the environment. It is based in Cajamarca. She also defended the Association for Human Rights (APRODEH). She was on the board of directors for the National Coordinator of Human Rights. She also wrote articles for Noticias SER.
Serving in the Peruvian Congress
In 2020, Mirtha Vásquez was elected to the Peruvian Congress. This happened during the 2020 Peruvian parliamentary election. She represented the Cajamarca area. She was an independent politician. She was part of the Broad Front group in Congress.
On November 15, 2020, Manuel Merino resigned as President of Peru. After this, Vásquez was chosen for a new role. She became the First Vice President of Congress. She was part of a list led by Francisco Sagasti. When Sagasti became president, Vásquez served as acting President of Congress.
Becoming Prime Minister
On October 6, 2021, Mirtha Vásquez was given a very important job. President Pedro Castillo appointed her as the Prime Minister of Peru. She was the sixth woman to hold this high office. She resigned from this position on January 31, 2022. Her resignation led to changes in the president's cabinet.
