The Mitsubishi Colt is a small car, also known as a supermini. It is made by Mitsubishi Motors in the Netherlands. This car used to share its basic parts with another car called the Smart Forfour.

The name "Colt" has been used by Mitsubishi many times. First, in the 1960s, it was used for very small cars called kei cars and slightly larger subcompact cars. Later, in the 1980s and 1990s, the "Colt" name was used for the export version of the Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback. A hatchback is a car with a back door that swings up.

Also, in the 1970s, Chrysler Corporation worked with Mitsubishi. They sold a version of the Mitsubishi Galant in the United States under the names Dodge Colt and Plymouth Colt. These were cars made by Mitsubishi but sold by Chrysler.

Different Generations of the Colt

The Mitsubishi Colt name has been used for several different cars over the years. It started with small cars in the 1960s and has continued to be used for modern supermini cars.

Early Colt Models (1960s)

In the 1960s, Mitsubishi used the Colt name for a range of small cars. These included very tiny cars called kei cars, which are special small cars in Japan. They also made slightly larger subcompact cars. These early models helped Mitsubishi become known for making reliable small vehicles.

Colt as the Mitsubishi Mirage (1980s-1990s)

During the 1980s and 1990s, the name "Colt" was often used for the export version of the Mitsubishi Mirage. The Mirage was a popular hatchback car. When it was sold outside of Japan, it was often called the Mitsubishi Colt. This helped people around the world recognize the car.

Colt in the United States (1970s)

In the 1970s, the Chrysler Corporation partnered with Mitsubishi. Chrysler sold some Mitsubishi cars in the United States under their own brand names. The second generation Mitsubishi Galant was one of these cars. It was sold as the Dodge Colt and Plymouth Colt. These were known as "captive imports," meaning they were made by one company but sold by another.

Modern Mitsubishi Colt (2000s-Present)

The current Mitsubishi Colt is a supermini car. It is built in the Netherlands. This modern version of the Colt has been designed to be a compact and efficient car for city driving and everyday use.
