Mitsuo Ogasawara, born on April 5, 1979, is a famous Japanese former professional footballer. He was a midfielder, which means he played in the middle of the field, helping both defense and attack. He also played for the Japan national team.

Club Career Highlights
Mitsuo Ogasawara was born in Morioka, Japan. After finishing high school, he joined the J1 League club Kashima Antlers in 1998. He quickly became an important player. By 1999, he was playing many matches as an offensive midfielder.
Becoming a Champion
In 2000, Ogasawara became a regular player for the Antlers. That year, his team made history by winning all three major titles in Japan: the J1 League, the J.League Cup, and the Emperor's Cup. In the Emperor's Cup Final, he scored two goals, helping his team win the championship.
The Kashima Antlers continued their success, winning the J1 League again in 2001. In the 2002 J.League Cup Final, Ogasawara scored the winning goal, and the Antlers won another championship. Because of his amazing play, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. He was also chosen for the J1 League's "Best Eleven" team for five years in a row, from 2001 to 2005.
Time in Italy and Return to Japan
In August 2006, Ogasawara moved to Italy to play for Serie A club Messina Peloro on a temporary loan. However, he did not play many matches there.
In July 2007, Ogasawara returned to his home club, Kashima Antlers. He started playing as a defensive midfielder, helping the team win the J1 League again that year, their first league title in six years. The Antlers also won the Emperor's Cup in 2007.
More Trophies and Retirement
The Kashima Antlers continued their winning streak, taking home the J1 League championship for three seasons in a row, from 2007 to 2009. In 2009, Ogasawara was again named the J1 League MVP.
From 2010 onwards, the Antlers kept winning. They won the Emperor's Cup in 2010 and the J.League Cup in 2011, 2012, and 2015. Ogasawara was also named MVP of the J.League Cup in 2015.
In 2016, the Antlers won the J1 League again. This allowed them to play in the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup, where they finished in second place. They also won the Emperor's Cup in 2016.
Towards the end of his career, Ogasawara played less often. In 2018, the Kashima Antlers won the AFC Champions League, which was their first major Asian title. Mitsuo Ogasawara retired from professional football at the end of the 2018 season, after a long and successful career. He played a total of 531 games and scored 70 goals in his club career.

Youth and Senior Team Debuts
In April 1999, Ogasawara was chosen to play for the Japan U-20 national team in the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship. He played in all 7 matches as an offensive midfielder, and Japan finished in second place, winning a silver medal.
On March 21, 2002, Ogasawara made his first appearance for the senior Japan national team. In June of that year, he was selected to play in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He played in one match against Tunisia. Japan made history by reaching the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time ever.
Major Tournaments and Achievements
After the 2002 World Cup, Ogasawara became a regular starter for Japan. He played in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2004 AFC Asian Cup. Even though he only played in two matches at the 2004 Asian Cup, Japan won the championship.
In 2005, he played in all three matches at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. In 2006, he was part of the Japan squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where he played in two matches.
Ogasawara played 55 games and scored 7 goals for Japan until 2010.
