Mitsuo Ogasawara (小笠原 満男, Ogasawara Mitsuo, born 5 April 1979) is a famous Japanese former footballer. He played as a midfielder, a key position on the field. He was also a member of the Japan national team.

Mitsuo Ogasawara's Club Career Highlights
Mitsuo Ogasawara was born in Morioka, Japan, on April 5, 1979. After finishing high school, he joined the J1 League club Kashima Antlers in 1998. He quickly became an important player for the team.
Early Success with Kashima Antlers
Ogasawara started playing regularly as an offensive midfielder in 1999. In 2000, he became a main player. That year, the Antlers made history by winning all three major Japanese titles: the J1 League, the J.League Cup, and the Emperor's Cup. In the Emperor's Cup Final, Ogasawara scored two goals, helping his team win the championship.
The club continued its winning streak, taking home the J1 League title again in 2001. In the 2002 J.League Cup Final, Ogasawara scored the winning goal. He was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for that tournament. From 2001 to 2005, he was chosen for the J1 League's Best Eleven team five years in a row.
Time in Italy and Return to Japan
In August 2006, Ogasawara moved to Italy to play for Serie A club Messina Peloro on a loan. However, he didn't get to play many games there.
He returned to Kashima Antlers in July 2007. Back in Japan, he played as a defensive midfielder. His return helped the Antlers win the J1 League title again after six years. They also won the 2007 Emperor's Cup. The Antlers then won the J1 League for three seasons in a row, from 2007 to 2009. In 2009, Ogasawara was again named the J.League MVP.
Later Career and Retirement
After 2010, the Antlers continued to win more cups, including the 2010 Emperor's Cup, 2011, 2012, and 2015 J.League Cup. Ogasawara was the MVP of the 2015 J.League Cup.
In 2016, the Antlers won the J1 League and got to play in the 2016 Club World Cup. They finished in second place, which was a great achievement. The Antlers also won the 2016 Emperor's Cup that year.
Towards the end of his career, Ogasawara played less often. In 2018, the Antlers won their first-ever Asian title, the AFC Champions League. Mitsuo Ogasawara retired from professional football at the end of the 2018 season, after a long and successful career with Kashima Antlers.

Mitsuo Ogasawara also had a strong career playing for Japan's national teams.
Youth National Team Success
In April 1999, Ogasawara was chosen for the Japan U-20 national team. He played in the 1999 World Youth Championship. He played in all seven matches as an offensive midfielder, helping Japan finish in second place.
Playing for the Senior National Team
Ogasawara made his debut for the Japan national team on March 21, 2002, against Ukraine. In June of that year, he was selected for the 2002 World Cup. He played in one match against Tunisia. Japan made history by reaching the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time.
After the 2002 World Cup, Ogasawara became a regular starter for Japan. He played in the 2003 Confederations Cup and the 2004 Asian Cup. Japan won the 2004 Asian Cup. He also played in the 2005 Confederations Cup and the 2006 World Cup.
After 2006, Ogasawara was not chosen for the national team for a few years as new, younger players were brought in. However, in February 2010, he was called back to play for Japan. He played a total of 55 games for Japan and scored 7 goals before he stopped playing internationally in 2010.
