Mix is a small, unincorporated community located in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but without its own local government.

Mix is known for two important historical places. One is the Parlange Plantation House, which is a National Historic Landmark. This means it's a very special place recognized for its history. The other is the Mix Store and Post Office, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You can find Mix along Louisiana Highway 1, just south of the town of New Roads.

How Mix Got Its Name

Many communities are named after people who were important to their history. The community of Mix is named after a man called Alexander Mix. He was once a professor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Alexander Mix moved to Pointe Coupee Parish in Louisiana. In 1802, he brought cotton farming to this area. This was a big change for the local economy. Later, in 1904, Alexander Mix's grandson, Thomas Mix, became the very first postmaster for the community. The post office in Mix eventually closed down after World War II.
