Exploring Mize: A Look at Its Past
Mize began to be settled by people from Europe in the early 1900s. These settlers built homes along the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad lines. However, some people from Scotland might have arrived even earlier, around 1810.
Native American Heritage
Before European settlers arrived, the Choctaw people lived in this area for thousands of years. Sadly, by the early 1800s, they were forced to move westward from their ancestral lands.
A Famous Local Figure
Mize is also close to a place called Sullivan's Hollow, Mississippi. This area was once home to William Cicero "Wild Bill" Sullivan, a well-known local figure.
Rebuilding After a Storm
On April 6, 2005, a strong tornado, called an F-3 tornado, hit Mize High School. The storm caused a lot of damage, ripping off the second floor of the school. But the community worked hard, and the school was fully rebuilt and ready by 2007.

- Eugene Sims: He was a professional football player. He played for the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams from 2010 to 2016.
- Prentiss Walker: He was an important political figure. He was the first Republican to represent Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives since a period in history called Reconstruction.
