Mizuho Sakaguchi (阪口 夢穂, Sakaguchi Mizuho, born October 15, 1987) is a famous Japanese football player. She played as a midfielder for many years. Mizuho was a key player for the Japan national team. She also played for several clubs, ending her career with Omiya Ardija Ventus in the WE League.

Mizuho Sakaguchi's Club Career

Mizuho Sakaguchi was born in Sakai, Japan, on October 15, 1987. She started her professional football journey very young. In 2003, when she was just 15, she joined Speranza FC Takatsuki. This was her first team in the top Japanese league, the L.League.

Playing for Different Teams

After finishing high school, Mizuho moved to Tasaki Perule FC in 2006. She quickly became a star player. In 2007, she was even chosen for the "Best Eleven" team, which means she was one of the best players in the league. Sadly, her club had to close down in 2008.

Mizuho then went to the United States for a short time. She played for FC Indiana in 2009. But she soon returned to Japan. In 2010, she joined Albirex Niigata and was again named to the "Best Eleven" in 2011.

Success with Nippon TV Beleza

In 2012, Mizuho joined Nippon TV Beleza, one of Japan's strongest women's football clubs. This is where she had some of her biggest successes. She won the "MVP" (Most Valuable Player) award three years in a row, from 2015 to 2017. She was also part of the "Best Eleven" for five years in a row, from 2013 to 2017. Mizuho played for Nippon TV Beleza until 2020, winning many league titles and cups with them.

Her last club was Omiya Ardija Ventus, where she played in the new WE League before retiring.

Mizuho Sakaguchi's National Team Career

Mizuho Sakaguchi also had an amazing career playing for the Japan national team, often called Nadeshiko Japan.

Early Days and First Goals

In July 2006, Mizuho was chosen to play for Japan in the Asian Cup. She made her debut on July 19, 2006, against Vietnam. In that very first game, she scored two goals! This was a fantastic start to her international career.

World Cup and Olympic Glory

Mizuho was a key player when Japan won the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany. This was a huge moment for Japanese football. In the final match against the United States, the game went to a penalty shootout. Mizuho bravely scored one of the penalties, helping her team win the championship!

She also played in the 2015 World Cup, where Japan finished as the runner-up. Mizuho was also part of the team that won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

From June 2016, she was given the special number 10 jersey for Japan. This showed how important she was to the team. Mizuho played a total of 124 games for Japan and scored 29 goals. She retired from international football in 2019.
